Not properly adjusting the distance on a pop-up sprinkler head is one of the most common errors you can make. This is especially true if you have two different heads watering the same section of your property. You may think you have everything covered only to discover that you don’t.
Fortunately, correcting distance problems on a pop-up sprinkler is very simple. Most manufacturers have a screw that interrupts the water stream coming from a pop-up head.
STEP 1: Find adjustment screw
The adjustment screw, which will be either a hex-head or Phillips-head, is located on top of the sprinkler head.
STEP 2: Turn on system
Turn on the water to your sprinkler system and observe where the water falls.
STEP 3: Rotate screw
Using an Allen wrench or Phillips-head screwdriver, turn the screw clockwise to increase distance and counter-clockwise to decrease distance. Always do so in small increments.
STEP 4: Run system check
To ensure that you’ve made adjustments that work for your lawn, run the system for a brief period of time. Then check your yard periodically to see that the sprinkler is watering target areas appropriately.
